The picture has been shown around the world and it is because it is actually very difficult to photograph the Earth from Saturn. But now we have managed to take a photo of Saturn. It writes the American institute for space research, NASA, whether on its website. Saturn is the third outermost planet in our solar system and therefore very far from Earth. From the distance seems to Earth near the Sun. This means that the sensitive detectors in a camera be damaged by looking directly at the sun when it comes to taking pictures.
The images of the Earth to be part of a mosaic of Saturn's rings, as scientists are assembling. There are however a few weeks before this is done, as it is a lot of work to get pictures taken from different light years and with different lighting to fit together.
NASA also has a spacecraft in orbit around Mercury, MESSENGER spacecraft. Here you can see both the Earth and Moon, both quite small, no bigger than a pixel, but when they are overexposed, they appear more clearly.
