Stephen King has for many years been one of the largest and most recognized name in the horror world, and his short stories and books have been made into a film in a big way since his debut with the novel Carrie, published in 1974. Novel was so successful that a film adaptation was inevitable, and it took no more than two years before Brian De Palma's film adaptation was released.
Also, the film version northern lighting was a great success and the interest of Kings stories grew quickly in Hollywood, as did the number northern lighting of adaptations of his works.
