A few weeks ago it was discovered that Intel was working on a new microprocessor based on Sandy Bridge to claim the performance crown in his own LGA 1155 platform, known by the trade name Core i7 2700K; chip that rumors will be released on October 24. Those of Xtreview we do get the first overclocked results of these new microprocessors.
The Intel Core i7 2700K has 4 cores running at 3.5GHz x86, and like the current Core i7 2600K will have the unlocked multiplier, allowing Do a good degree of overclocking. The specimen examined corresponds to an engineering sample based on stepping D2 (the same as used in the Core i7 2600K); so do not expect to see big changes in their ability to overclock, and apparently the first overclocked results reaffirm it said microprocessor. An official capture CPU-Z shows that to achieve the 5.2 GHz, the chip had to be carried 1,504 volts. While in another overclock done on HWBOT microprocessor had to be carried up to 1.55 volts to reach 5.4GHz.
Voltages used to achieve these high operating frequencies are almost the same required to do the same with the Core i7 2600K; so those of Xtreview see no particular reason for this microprocessor which forces overclockers to replace its current Core i7 2600K by one of the new Core i7 2700K, which it was hoped that required lower voltages to achieve the same frequencies .
