The observant follower on Twitter will be the last few days already noticed; during World Cup matches on Twitter I regularly former Feyenoord players who are on the field. These are often not the most famous names, or at least, no names that are linked directly to Feyenoord. After last night Guillermo Ochoa, the Mexican goalkeeper who was in the interest of Feyenoord in 2009, became dot it the hero of the evening, it seemed interesting to me to make a list of almost-Feyenoord players who play in this World Cup. And here, the list is there.
In group A, in Brazil we find perhaps the best-known as non-Feyenoord player of the World Cup, Fred. Brazilian striker dot it started his career at America Belo Horizonte, which was at the beginning of this century, one of many satellite clubs Feyenoord and every year a cargo pilot training for young talents sent to the Netherlands. One of the players dot it who was called then finally to the Netherlands, Michel Bastos, a left back who was hired directly by Excelsior. That was done by teammates laugh; even for the second he did not seem good enough. He eventually ended up at Olympique Lyon ... And Fred came to the French club visit. At the beginning of the century Feyenoord dot it acquired part (not 100%, as is sometimes reported) of his transfer rights, and in the summer of 2004, Feyenoord will take him to the Netherlands. There he thinks otherwise. Rather, he relocated to Cruzeiro. In exchange for a large part of the transfer rights Feyenoord possession getting dot it the club the attacker Gerson Magrao Cruzeiro. In two years, he comes to just six games, but later he does it pretty nice Dinamo Kiev and now he plays for the Portuguese top club Sporting Lisbon. Besides ever scored a flawless hat-trick at Jong Feyenoord against Young ADO Den Haag. Fred incidentally, is back in Brazil with Fluminense.
In Mexico sparkled last night the goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. In the summer of 2009 trying technical director Leo Beenhakker, who let him make his debut in America, Ochoa to get to the Netherlands. In vain, for he still remains two years in Mexico before he goes to the French club Ajaccio. Moreover Feyenoord chose that summer Rob van Dijk, Darley and Excelsior returned Erwin Mulder over the Mexican, who incidentally is a free transfer this summer.
In group B, then, we find in Chile Mauricio Pinilla. dot it In the summer of 2002, the then 18-year-old dot it striker on trial for a while. First at Feyenoord, then at Excelsior. In an exhibition game with the second of the Kralingers against Spijkenisse he scored twice, but technical director Rob Baan is not convinced of his ability. The Italian club Internazionale is that a year later as they prefer to lay three million pounds to buy him away from Universidad de Chile. There he does not break through, but later he does well at include Sporting Lisbon, Hearts, Palermo and Cagliari today. dot it Feyenoord, meanwhile, was left with compatriots Sebastian Pardo and Jorge Acuna. Oops.
We need to pool D to encounter the following ex-Feyenoord nearly; Bryan Ruiz from Costa Rica. The attacker provides in the spring of 2005 itself to Feyenoord coach Ruud Gullit dot it and mag and technical director Mark Wotte Anyhow a few times. That's it, after hearing a few days Ruiz is not good enough and he returns to his club Alajuelense. A year later picks AA Gent him there. Later he excels at FC Twente, but he Fulham and PSV he is not impressed. dot it
Also in Group D, the Italian Andrea Pirlo. Almost he was in the summer of 20 ... no, it was just so. Pirlo is divine but unfortunately never been a (near) Feyenoord. Damn you, technical directors and scouts.
In group E, we see in Switzerland Reto Ziegler back. A decade ago, the left back was a huge talent and attracted several top clubs to him. Including Feyenoord, currently the number three in the Eredivisie. What probably is the reason that Ziegler after meeting with director Mark Wotte cancels the club for Tottenham Hotspurs play.
In Portugal, in Group G, we see Pepe, the hard-nosed defender whose number internationals have now transcended IQ seems to have. In April 2004 Feyenoord drops her eye on the defender still Maritimo. Scout Michel Beukers and coach Ruud Gullit fly to Portugal to see him play, but come only then discovered that he already has signed with FC Porto. Gaffe.
Also in Portugal: Fabio Coentrao. The left wing defender in 2008 still left outside and got sidetracked at Benfica, the Portuguese top club where Feyenoord in preparation for the 2008/2009 season against exercise. In making the backroom Feyenoord dot it and Benfica meanwhile the deal on Coentrao. One year it is rented, then Feyenoord can him for five million
