Zeze Takahisas Tokyo X Erotica is an unfortunate start to Another World Entertainment's otherwise interesting series of Japanese pink film. The film taken strange facade, unclear message and unappealing technical side makes Tokyo X Erotica a difficult film to like, although the director, however, be commended for the successful erotic scenes.
Tokyo X Erotica is the first release of Another World Entertainment's series of Japanese Pink films. Unfortunately, Tokyo X Erotica no particularly good film, and a bit annoyed start to the otherwise exciting initiative from AWE.
The Japanese Pink films (various types of film with elements of soft porn) is a largely unknown in Denmark. Another World Entertainment has given us an example of Pinky violence sub-genre with FURYO Anego on: Inoshika Ocho (Sex and Fury, 1973), which we previously reviewed here on Planet Pulp, but the first four films in AWE's new line belongs to all Pink genre newer posts. At the same time, they belong to the more serious part of the genre. Sex arthouse
Tokyo X Erotica is thus almost be described as an erotic arthousedrama; a term which in itself probably would discourage anyone. It is as such no reason, but in this specific case, the reaction is correct, because unfortunately hangs Tokyo X Erotica so badly that the end result is not interesting or fascinating, but rather annoying and frustrating.
When you move into the more experimental side of the genre spectrum is no requirement that a film should have a story you should be able to follow, but the idea and the message must come forward. They do not here. Plot there is nothing in the traditional sense, and had it not been for the "Action description" back of the DVD cover, I had been completely without a compass. Allegedly acting Tokyo X Erotica about a young couple: the guy is killed in a terrorist attack while the woman is murdered stilnovo by a customer while she works as a prostitute. The text on the DVD cover, they meet again in 2002, and the text put forward the question "how can this be done when both are dead?"
We will have no answer, but that they will meet again in 2002, also for rigorous way to describe the process on. Tokyo X Erotica is more a collection of tableaux from the two main characters' lives, especially of erotic character, stilnovo but the precise purpose and message shall by no means clear. For the same reason, there is no reason to go into detail in the various tableaux, involving various friends and acquaintances - and eventually even death himself in pink bunny costume. Assumed black
It sounds black, and it is certainly too, but in a committed special shape, which in its desired mood suggests that the director Takahisa Zeze has skeleton to a director like David Lynch - without the film in general in any way comparable to some of Lynch's films.
It is possible that there is a cultural barrier in the game that makes it difficult to decode the message of the film, but I do not really think so. I am leaning more to believe that the message of Tokyo X Erotica just is tucked away behind the film taken strange facade, which, incidentally, is enhanced considerably by the fact that the film was shot entirely with handheld DV cameras.
It is an idiom that filmmakers should be extremely cautious to use - it can be extremely stilnovo effective if done properly, but in many cases it's going to seem primitive, committed stilnovo and strong stilnovo sophomoric. It does it in Tokyo X Erotica, with its floating camera time, grainy picture stilnovo quality and bad lighting seems like an experiment. Instructor's four years older Raigyo (1997) is considerably more traditional, but also much more successful, so there is no question that Zeze Takahisa stilnovo is a stylistically uncertain instructor. Here, the experiment just failed. Successful erotic scenes
Actually I have very little positive stilnovo to say about Tokyo X Erotica - with the exception of the way the erotic scenes are produced. In fact, they often genuinely stilnovo erotic, because rarely is a pornoficeret production of sex act. Several of the scenes appear realistic, making them generally successful and place shown wracking. It's pretty fine, but unfortunately just not enough in any way to make Tokyo X Erotica for a good movie.
On the contrary, Tokyo X Erotica a game of mess that can not be salvaged by its aspiration to be a artfilm and certainly not helped by the unappealing technical side. As I said it is unfortunate that Another World Entertainment's first release in Pink Cinema Series is a better film, but it must immediately be said that the series 2 - Raigyo - is a significant decline
